Job Description and Duties

The Public Inquiry Unit (PIU) is the primary public point-of-contact for persons who seek assistance and information from the Attorney General's Office. The PIU annually receives and responds to approximately 200,000 written and telephone inquiries from the public, elected officials, law enforcement agencies and other governmental entities on a wide variety of subjects and issues.

The Staff Services Analyst performs at the first journey level, maintaining initiative and knowledge to independently perform a variety of duties associated with functions of the PIU. Duties require computer proficiency, strong organizational skills, analytical ability, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Specific tasks of the position include: analyzing and researching a broad range of complaints and inquires submitted to the Office of the Attorney General; preparing written responses to members of the public; responding to callers to the Attorney General’s public telephone hotline; requesting information, clarifying, and analyzing issues and providing verbal responses to the public on a broad range of subject matters. 

Please note that this classification contains multiple salary ranges. New-to-State employees  will be given the minimum salary of Range A, unless you meet Alternate Range Criteria 69 . For current state employees and/or those with  reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Working Conditions

This position has been designated as eligible for telework and is currently a remote-centered position. The position may however  require in-person attendance when requested. The selected candidate would report to Department of Justice headquarters in Sacramento  if/when required to attend mandated in-person meetings, trainings, etc. Expenses related to travel to the office for required events are  the responsibility of the employee. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time.
