Job Title: GIS Competition Analyst
Location: Remote
Duration: 9+ months
Shift: 9 AM 5 PM schedule .
Overview:
- We are seeking a highly autonomous GIS Competition Analyst to join our team responsible for siting and selecting wind, solar, and storage projects. This role requires a deep understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartographic principles, and a strong technical aptitude. The ideal candidate will be organized, an effective communicator, capable of managing multiple tasks, and able to work independently with minimal guidance. Attention to detail is crucial, and the role demands proficiency in GIS software, database applications, and data analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with departments across our Business Development group, including Project Development, Environmental & Permitting, Meteorology, Real Estate, and Acquisitions & Structuring.
- Provide GIS and cartographic support by generating production-quality maps for Business Development.
- Create and edit accurate GIS data, maintaining spatial databases.
- Research public and private datasets to support the siting of renewable energy projects.
- Conduct research on industry competition, interconnection requests, ownership stakes, energy markets, environmental constraints, zoning & permitting requirements, transmission capacity, and energy pricing. Analyze these to assess the maturity, viability, and economics of projects.
- Research government records and online databases to analyze land interests and integrate findings into GIS and tabular databases.
- Prepare and present products and deliverables to decision-makers.
- Import and analyze data from development managers and land acquisition agents to determine contract execution authority.
- Assist in the testing of applications and tools that automate workflows.
- Train new team members on competition analysis workflows.
- Work directly with project developers to facilitate requests and address questions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficient in Esri ArcGIS desktop software, ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, and Portal.
- Minimum of 3 years of GIS experience, including work with relational databases and GIS applications such as ArcGIS.
- Knowledge of GIS capabilities, with the ability to manage spatial data and conduct detailed analysis.
- Experience in renewable energy development, project evaluation, siting, regional transmission grids, land records, local and state permitting, environmental studies, and economics is preferred.
- Experience in software design, development, and debugging is a plus.
- Strong computer skills, with experience in database-driven applications.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
