Basic Responsibilities

We are looking to grow our list of freelance photographers. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of photography, excellent technical skills, and a strong commitment to capturing and conveying the spirit of our university's Christian values, community, and events through visual storytelling. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with various departments and document important moments. 

The key principle of this job is to support ACU’s Mission to educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world.

Essential Duties

● Photography Coverage:
○ Attend university events, ceremonies, receptions, and other requested activities to capture high-quality photographs that showcase the vibrant life and diverse experiences on campus.

● Portrait Photography:
○ Produce professional portraits of students, faculty, staff, and alumni for various
university publications, marketing materials, and digital platforms.

● Visual Storytelling:
○ Use your creative vision to tell engaging stories through photography,
highlighting the unique aspects of campus life, academic programs, community
service initiatives, and spiritual events.

● Photo Editing:
○ Edit and enhance photographs using industry-standard software to ensure optimal
quality and visual appeal while maintaining the authenticity of the captured
moments.

● Collaboration:
○ Collaborate closely with the university's marketing team and campus-wide
partners to understand project requirements, deadlines, and objectives, ensuring
alignment with the university's branding guidelines and messaging.

● Equipment Management:
○ Maintain and operate photography equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting,
and accessories, to ensure proper functionality and optimal performance during
photo shoots.

● File Management:
○ Organize and manage digital image files efficiently, ensuring accurate labeling, storage, and archival for easy retrieval and future use.

● Other duties as assigned

Professional Development Requirements

● Able to send edited images within 24-48 hours of the event.
● Must be able to prove that you have your own insurance.
● Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Aer Effects, Audion, Illustrator, Media Encoder, InDesign)
● Experience in higher education photography or corporate photography is a plus.
● Experience photographing for both digital and print publications.
● Experience with staged, candid, studio, event, architectural, landscapes, portrait, group, product, photojournalism and tabletop photo shoots.
● Proven experience in professional photography, particularly in event coverage, portrait photography, and promotional material creation.
● Portfolio showcasing a strong understanding of composition, lighting, and storytelling.

Physical Demands

● Lives within 15 - 30 miles of Abilene Christian University.
● Ability to carry and maneuver photography equipment over extended periods of time.
● Ability to travel to different locations
● Ability to sit for long periods of time at a computer
● Ability to communicate easily with audiences by phone, in person, text, email or videoconference.
