Position Summary

The Web Content Specialist at Washington University in St. Louis, Arts & Sciences (A&S) will be a key member of the marketing and communications department and will be responsible for the daily management of the digital presence for WashUâ™s Arts & Sciences websites. The Web Content Specialist supports the day-to-day operations of the Arts & Sciences websites, including the main Arts & Sciences website and the administrative website Inside Arts & Sciences. The candidate will be highly detail oriented, a strong team player, an adept problem solver, a good writer/editor and will be enthusiastic about keeping their skills sharp through training and professional development. The ideal candidate will be proficient in content creation and management in a CMS such as Drupal or Word Press, User Experience, Google Analytics, and SEO.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Arts & Sciences Website

  • Responsible for creating, updating and auditing content in the main Arts & Sciences website , ensuring the sites remain up-to-date and relevant.
  • Provide support for the administrative website Inside Arts & Sciences .
  • Ensure essential administrative and academic information is up to date and comprehensive (e.g., academic and administrative deadlines, recognition ceremony logistics, and student/staff announcements).

Department, Center and Program Websites

  • Act as primary liaison between A&S Marketing Communications, the A&S web team and the A&S departments.
  • Cultivate relationships across A&S departments and administrative units.
  • Provide advice and direct support for administrative staff who manage A&S unit websites, assisting them with content strategy and website functionality.
  • Provide oversight and direct support for schoolwide content sharing to ensure that shared content is used appropriately, effectively, and widely across A&S websites.
  • Regularly audit unit sites for issues affecting content presentation, user experience, and branding/visual consistency (e.g., faculty photos, department homepage layout, virtual bookshelf content).
  • Plan and execute training opportunities for unit staff, as needed.
  • Assist unit staff in planning and executing virtual events.
  • Develop workflows and processes to ensure quality control and timeliness of department website updates. 
     

Content Strategy

  • Place and maintain engaging content on the main Arts & Sciences website, including event and profile pages, administrative and academic content, and compelling images and graphics.
  • Maintain and encourage stylistic and thematic standards and consistency across A&S · Work with the A&S web team to develop and improve website functions based on priorities and needs.
  • Ensure website content compatibility with variety of platforms and maintain mobile optimization through regular site testing and audits.
  • Proactively monitor site traffic and make the needed improvements to achieve marketing and communications objectives.
  • Monitor search engine optimization (SEO) to improve visibility and ranking of Arts & Sciences websites and overall brand performance on search engines.
  • Champion accessible content creation on all A&S websites.

Critical information updates for A&S websites

  • Support school leadership in conveying critical information to A&S community through websites (e.g., priority updates from the Dean).
  • Maintain accuracy and timeliness of web content relating to operations and crisis management via, e.g., the Inside ArtSci website.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of web content for operations and crisis management

Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Such duties will include writing and editing high-quality and engaging copy for websites (e.g., titles, captions, content summaries), identifying engaging photos and graphics for websites, addressing various user experience issues, and professional development.
