The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Systems Network Analyst (Transit On-board Systems).

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. This is a professional, technical, and analytical position including administrative responsibilities in computer system implementations deployments, maintenance, and support. This position is required to provide 24x7 support periodically as part of a team rotation. The candidate must have a reliable internet connection and tools to connect to the County's infrastructure to provide support outside of normal business hours. The candidate must have reliable transportation to commute to various Transportation facilities during business hours and non-business hours as necessary to support Transportation systems. 

General Description

The purpose of this class within the organization is to maintain, troubleshoot, resolve issues, and provide high-level technical support to the Transit On-Board Systems.  

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

This position is primarily going to oversee the following technologies:

  • Wi-Fi in our fleet buses

  • Wi-Fi maintenance and support in our bus yards  

  • Primarily responsible for the maintenance of onboard systems which requires most of the work time outdoors or onboard buses in transit facilities

  • Support the bus video system
  • Support the bus interior and exterior digital signs  

  • Pedestrian detection/avoidance system

  • Transit Signal Priority (TSP) Systems

  • On-Board Radio Communications

  • Automatic Passenger Counters (APC)

  • Computer-Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Locator (CAD/AVL)

  • Maintain trouble tickets or repair requests to ensure service completion 

  • Monitor repair request ticketing system and use it to prioritize work 

  • Use of repair ticketing system software to prioritize work and communicate with end-users

The position will be responsible for the following:

  • Installation, support, maintenance, and monitoring of wireless equipment

  • Inventory of wireless-related equipment including access points and other related infrastructure

  • Resolving customer complaints relating to Wi-Fi

  • Must be able to work with and understand electronic schematics and diagrams  

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and network-related problems  

  • Analyze work procedures, planning, recommending, and implementing solutions

  • Use system monitoring tools and equipment to ensure maximum "up time" and satisfactory customer service  

  • Installation, support, maintenance, and monitoring of on-board video systems
  • Retrieve video from bus video systems for accidents and other incidents
  • Install, support, and maintain other on-board systems, including Transit Signal Priority devices and Automatic Passenger Counters
  • Support and maintain internal and external route sign displays and information displays
  • Perform hardware and software upgrades
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on on-board systems for the bus fleet
  • Work with Microsoft Office products and other business essential tools to support On-Board Systems
  • Integrate Wi-Fi with various On Board systems such as the farebox, signs, CAD AVL, radio, video system, etc.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a two (2) year degree from an accredited trade, technical or vocational school, college or university with major coursework in computer science or closely related field.

(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)

Requires two (2) years in supporting users and analyzing computer systems relevant to area of assignment or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.
Other Requirements
This position will begin with traditional business hours for training purposes but employee will be assigned to work a shift that will encompass some afternoons and evenings along with weekends.


Preferences

  • Bachelors, Masters or Masters Degree in related field
  • Microsoft Systems related certificate
  • CradlePoint Certified Network Associate or other CradlePoint Certified Certification
  • ETA Basic Electronics Certification or similar certification
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate
  • Two (2) or more years experience in wireless technology such GPS, cellular, wireless infrastructure, switches, routers and modems 
  • Two (2) or more years experience in vehicle electronic equipment such as buses, cars and trucks
  • Two (2) or more years experience working radio frequency (RF) radios
  • One (1) or more years of prior work experience monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting and resolving On-board Operating systems issues

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Provides technical support to users who are experiencing hardware and/or software issues; manages backup process; sends backup tapes off site and prepares new tapes for next backup; tests and installs applications and new drivers before deployment.

Sets up backup server, clients, groups and media for backup process; updates and upgrades operating system, application software on computers and servers; deploys new computers and servers to replace those broken and/or out of warranty.

Researches, analyzes, compares and applies solutions to many technical issues in our environment; creates and revises procedural documentation for installation of many third party software used; researches technical problems of moderate to high complexity; documents information of assigned incidents and resolutions.

Inventories computer equipment as part of annual hardware replacement project; installs and configures computer equipment as a part of the annual hardware replacement project; prepares systems for staff and public use.

Opens trouble tickets and coordinates with coworkers to resolve the issue; installs configure computer, software, hardware, and network communications, troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software, and network problems.

Performs related work as assigned.
