Job Summary This Student Success Coach position will work to empower students to identify and achieve their educational, personal, and professional goals through guided coaching sessions and by connecting students with resources within and beyond the Student Success Center. The Coach identifies students who may be at risk of failing and/or withdrawing and proactively works with the students and manages the coordination of support offered to them; provide support to students through advising and coaching first-year students. The coach is integrally involved with many facets of a student's academic, personal, and future professional success by providing academic, pre-health career, and life coaching. In addition to advising and student advocacy, student success coaches participate in teaching, management of coach resources, and professional development and campus engagement. Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
• Must have 1+ years experience in an educational setting
• Must be able to facilitate faculty work groups; organize multiple projects simultaneously;
• Critical thinker and problem solver;
• Meet goals of strategic plan; work well under pressure;
• Excellent grammar and writing abilities;
• Ability to work effectively with students
• Possess excellent communication and leadership skills
• Ability to effectively manage relationships with staff and faculty
• Ability to interpret statistical reports and prepare statistical reports when necessary
• Exhibits strong positive attitude and ability to foster teamwork
• Able to collaborate with others; collect, analyze and interpret data; train others on complex processes. Role and Responsibilities
• Providing holistic support to first-year students,
• Meeting regularly with identified first-year students throughout their first year on campus, with particular emphasis on helping the transition in their first semester
• Developing relationships with identified students that encourage continuation of long-term academic coaching into the second semester and second year when necessary
• Initiating short-term academic coaching as needed throughout the identified students' academic career.
• Participating in the planning and implementation of Orientation, including summer contacts prior to move-in dates
• Collecting and analyzing student success data, with a particular emphasis on first-year students
• Helping to coordinate and facilitate effective study halls for athletic programs and/or other co-curricular activities
• Making recommendations on student success initiatives to the Director of the Student Success Center and the Provost's Office
• Monitor student progress towards graduation; extract, analyze, and report on student progress utilizing available databases and resources
• Mentor students on the career exploration process throughout their four years by helping them discover and reflect on their personal skills, values, and interests
• Support and empower students in their career decision making process
• Encourage students to make connections between the interdisciplinary curriculum and a broad range of health science career paths
• Support students in navigating the transition to college; homesickness, self advocacy, overcoming personal and/or academic challenges.
• Encourage students to connect to and make meaning of community engagement, leadership opportunities, student organizations, and professional experiences.
• Assist students in developing a deeper sense of self-awareness regarding values, identity, strengths, and passions
