STATE PARK INTERPRETER III – SANTA CRUZ DISTRICT / DISTRICT OFFICE / HENRY COWELL REDWOODS STATE PARK

The reporting location for this position is the District Office in Felton, CA. This position will work under the general direction of District Superintendent I.   

The State Park Interpreter III provides support and oversight for district interpretive services including planning, developing, directing and supervising activities of staff and volunteers engaged in interpretation, education and cultural and natural resources. This position serves as a member of CORE staff and manages projects in relation to interpretation/education and public information. This position advises staff of interpretive policy, fosters interpretive activities and enhances public, community, partnerships and allied agency understanding of the significance and value of California State Parks. The position interfaces with headquarters and the service center to plan, develop and implement statewide interpretive and educational programs. The incumbent will participate in interpretive and cultural/natural resources planning and collaborating with partners and colleagues. In conjunction with another State Park Interpreter III, the incumbent will oversee the work of Interpreter II's, Interpreter I's, and seasonal interpreters.

Additionally, this position oversees the district volunteer program which includes approximately 1100 long term volunteers and 1500 short term volunteers. This position is responsible for the operation of visitor centers, historic complexes including ranches, a mission and a lighthouse. The position collaborates with multiple partner organizations including five cooperating associations and manages a budget of 1.5 million in staffing and supplies from cooperating partner funds.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position is designated as telework eligible-remote centered.

Working Conditions

Works primarily in an office setting and has daily and frequent use of computer/tablet. Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in a range of climatic environments/uneven terrain including trails and forests.
