Role Overview:
As a Senior Traffic Engineer within the Traffic Mobility Office at the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the state’s roadway network. This position focuses on operational efficiency, capacity planning, mobility, and accessibility—particularly on the Interstate System and high-volume arterial routes.
This senior-level position requires a highly skilled traffic engineer who can lead complex technical analyses, strategic planning, and project coordination. You’ll be the go-to subject matter expert on traffic mobility, collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to enhance Indiana’s transportation infrastructure. You will utilize your proficiency in traffic analysis software including Synchro, PTV Vissim, PTV Vistro, HCS, Sidra, and others.

As a Highway Engineer, you will follow generally accepted but complex and sometimes ambiguous engineering practices, specifications and guidelines when completing work assignments. Independent judgment and initiative are necessary to interpret project parameters and concepts and apply them to complex and unique situations. Your work is broad in scope and of great intricacy, involving new, untried, and complex variables.
