Job Description

Under the supervision of the Chief Therapist and direction of a Lead staff therapist, performs duties that include direct and indirect patient care activities. which are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients, and technical support related to patients receiving radiation therapy treatment. Will also act as a Chaperone for any treatment of sensitive areas.

  • 2. Under the general direction of the chief therapist, fabricates beam shielding and patient positioning devices and other unique devices used in radiation therapy, physics calibrations.
    • 2.1 Assesses devices to be made, including verification and clarification of information needed for accurate device fabrication.
  • 3. Under the general direction of the chief therapist maintaines the block room.
    • 3.1 Maintains the mold room area in a clean and safe manner as observed by the physics staff.
  • 4. Under the general direction of the chief therapist, and therapy staff performs quality assurance and record keeping.

  • 5. Under the direction of the therapist, engages in selected tasks and activities as directed to obtain and report information, to assist the therapist in the assessment, planning and evaluation of patient needs, treatment and response to treatment.
    • 5.1 Regularly maintains work area in a neat and orderly fashion as observed by the therapist.
  • 6. Under the direction of the chief therapist, and staff therapist, performs technical duties, selected treatments, procedures and activities which contribute to safe and efficient delivery of patient care.
    • 6.1 Assists the therapist lifting, turning and positioning as directed based on age specific criteria.
  • 7. Functions as a member of the care team to support the therapist and other care givers in providing care to patients.
    • 7.1 Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team offering suggestions on addressing patient/family needs based on age specific criteria.
  • 8. Provides environmental support to the work area to ensure efficiency in the delivery of patient care.
    • 8.1 Cleans and stocks equipment and supplies, as necessary.
  • 9. Maintains clinical competency in areas of responsibility and participates in unit activities that promote a cohesive staff group.
    • 9.1 Attends all mandatory continuing education classes.
  • 10. Under the direction of the therapist, functions as a member of the care team to support the set up and treatment delivery of patients receiving radiation therapy.
    • 10.1 Regularly prepares treatment room for expected patient treatment based on age specific criteria.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION


Must be a senior in their last semester of an accredited Radiation Therapy Program.


EXPERIENCE


Patient care experience required.


LICENSURE


Will work as a Rad Therapist Tech Aide pending graduation and the passing of the ARRT Certification, as well as obtaining the Connecticut State License.


SPECIAL SKILLS


Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, peers, and supervisor. Must display the ability to prioritize and adjust work plans based on the needs of the patient and the Radiation Therapy Service. Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Ability to perform tasks of physical endurance and dexterity as required by placement. Consistent use of proper body mechanics.
