About the Role

Workday is seeking a passionate and expert Principal Art Director, Experiential to join our dynamic team. This role will be pivotal in crafting the creative direction of Workday’s presence at Rising–our marquee customer event. The ideal candidate will possess an outstanding blend of creativity, critical thinking, and an innovative approach to deliver creative solutions that resonate with our audience and support our brand objectives.

This role requires a strong understanding of event design principles, event marketing strategies, and attendee journey planning, with a shown ability to deliver innovative and impactful event experiences. The Principal Art Director will be a key individual contributor, working closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to bring concepts to life. A critical aspect of this role involves confidently expressing creative opinions, effectively communicating with team members, and passionately protecting and promoting the Workday brand.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement creative strategies for Workday Rising, maximizing the Workday platform and other tools to improve engagement and success.
  • Partner with producer, internal creative and agency teams to conceptualize and implement innovative experiential activations.
  • Translate broad and conceptual ideas and turn them into engaging experiences.
  • Create engaging attendee journeys that highlight Workday’s solutions.
  • Provide art direction and design guidance for event signage and wayfinding, production design, lighting and audiovisual elements, interactive displays and activations, collateral and promotional materials.
  • Lead brainstorming sessions and give innovative ideas to event themes, formats, and activations.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the attendee journey, mapping out key touchpoints and interactions.
  • Design event experiences that are engaging, illuminating, and memorable, catering to the specific needs and interests of target audiences.
  • Consider accessibility and inclusivity in all planning.
  • Work closely with Events & Executive Engagement and Product Marketing teams to ensure alignment with overall event objectives and brand guidelines.
  • Expertly present and pitch creative concepts to team members, effectively communicating their value and strategic alignment.
  • Engage in active and productive conversations with collaborators, addressing feedback and ensuring creative vision is understood and respected.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, ensuring all event creative outputs are consistent with brand voice, style guidelines, and visual identity.
  • Collaborate with external vendors, agencies, and production teams to source and handle resources critical for event execution.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to optimize future event experiences.
  • Partner with other teams to scale creative production and streamline processes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in experiential design within a creative team environment.
  • Ability to develop and implement successful creative strategies.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate and sell ideas to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, providing clear direction and feedback.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously and work within tight time frames.
  • 3D design knowledge is a plus.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools and their application in creative solutions preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI inspired activations.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience in print production, especially in large-scale applications.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Desire to continue learning and willingness to adopt new skills.
  • Appreciates the value of humor and having fun at work too.

Other Qualifications

  • Experience in exploring or implementing AI-driven solutions to optimize workflows, inform decisions, and address problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate creative concepts to designers, writers, and other partners.

This is the pay range that Magnit reasonably expects to pay for this position: $85.34/hour - $113.79/hour
