Position Summary/Description:

This is a new position that has been created to perform the responsibilities associated with a grant funded by the National Science Foundation (Collaborative Research: Burrows as buffers – does microhabitat selection and behavior mediate desert tortoise resilience to climate change?) to Eric Riddell (Assistant Professor) at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

The person hired for this Postdoctoral Research Associate position is expected to run lab and field experiments on desert tortoises using flow through respirometry. The person is also responsible for implementing and developing biophysical models to predict habitat suitability of the desert tortoise. The person will also meet regularly with and collaborate with members of the San Diego Zoo Alliance to develop a conservation plan for the desert tortoise. The person is expected to analyze data and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts from the experiments.

The position requires use of flow through respirometry.

Education and Experience:

The preferred qualifications include experience conducting experiments using flow through respirometry, knowledge of and experience in the field of thermal ecology, experience coding in R, python, or similar coding languages, and experience conducting field work in harsh environmental conditions.
