The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solutions providers - striving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them. Facilities Management is responsible for the effective operation of Irvine campus buildings, grounds and utilities; for providing a safe, functionally suitable and aesthetic environment in support of academic, research and public service programs of the University. Providing comprehensive management of campus facilities requires the employment of approximately 325 personnel ranging in classification from custodians and groundskeepers to more technical skilled crafts such as electricians and plumbers, and professional design staff and engineers. These services cover more than 150 buildings of approximately 6 million gross square feet, and1,475 acres of grounds. Facilities Management has an annual operating budget exceeding $80 million in expenditures, with operating funds of $30 million and $15 million for reimbursable campus activities. Project Services a construction department within Facilities Management manages a portfolio of major infrastructure and renovation projects totaling $200M per year. Your Role on the Team Performs general maintenance, repairs, and construction work in exterior areas of campus including concrete, asphalt, brick, block, tile, stucco and other masonry work. Also repairs and replaces concrete benches, posts, and speed bumps. Installs bollards, sign posts, and other anchoring work. Installs non-skid stair treads and maintains outside fountains. Performs sandblasting, water blasting, steam cleaning, and other clean-up work. Identifies grade using transit; sets forms, pours and finishes concrete. Demo's damaged concrete and asphalt using jackhammers, sledge hammers and steel bars; cleans up and removes debris and hauls off to disposal site. Saw cuts and core drills concrete and asphalt. Patches asphalt in streets and sidewalks, concrete benches, stairs, curbs and walkways. Grinds concrete and asphalt to eliminate trip hazards. Installs and repairs brick, block and other masonry systems exterior tiles and pavers. Sandblasts steel and masonry surfaces. Removes graffiti and cleans up other vandalism. Removes and replaces exterior caulking and other joint sealants. Applies paint and other coatings to exterior surfaces with brushes, rollers and spray machines. Digs, using hand tools, trenchers, backhoes, front loaders, etc. Performs other routine maintenance duties as required. Provides excavation support to other trades and performs other exterior maintenance duties as required. Incumbent is required to communicate closely with supervision, campus partners, academic building managers and coordinate work with other FM shops. Works effectively as a Lead Team Member by using positive communication techniques, bringing talent to the team, and supporting teammates by fulfilling responsibilities, helping teammates when called upon, and contributing to the overall success of the team. Overall, the Lead Mason role requires a blend of leadership, technical skills, and collaboration to ensure that maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and contribute to the overall functionality and aesthetics of the campus.
