POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Represent A4A and member airlines throughout all phases of air services market access negotiations between the U.S. and foreign governments. Resolve member airlines international and regulatory issues globally through preparing and filing A4A position papers, letters and comments concerning doing business and policy issues before U.S. and foreign regulators and international bodies. Provide important facilitation, coordination, and industry-wide advocacy functions, specifically as a liaison between A4A member airlines and the U.S. and/or foreign governments.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and resolve international and regulatory doing business issues on behalf of A4A and member airlines.
  • Participate as a member of United States Government (USG) delegations during bilateral and multilateral negotiations representing the interests of A4A member airlines.
  • In addition to bilateral negotiations, represent A4A member airlines at meetings which relate to International Affairs including Federal Aviation Administration International Stakeholder meetings; meetings with multilateral organizations including International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA), Eurocontrol, etc.
  • Drafting industry position letters, consensus building amongst members to successfully persuade/influence US and foreign government decisions or policies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant USG officials in Washington and abroad (U.S. Embassies and Missions); with foreign government officials; and with industry representatives worldwide as appropriate to deal with A4A member issues.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with representatives of the IATA and regional aviation associations.
  • Other duties as identified.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6-10 years’ experience, ideally with an airline, association, or government dealing with international issues or other international relations background; ability to travel internationally to represent A4A and members as required.
  • Understanding and familiarity with the DOT International Aviation Policy and the elements of a bilateral agreement.
  • Understanding of the roles of the Department of State (DOS), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Department of Commerce (DOC) in aviation negotiations.
  • Contacts and relationships with US government officials at State, DOT, FAA and Commerce that are responsible for international aviation issues.
  • Contacts and relationships within the aviation community.
  • Ability to understand what issues are important to members and work with US and foreign governments to whatever extent is necessary to resolve an issue.
  • Preferable Spanish, Mandarin, or Japanese language skills.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

If approved by department supervisors, A4A employees have the option to work from home on Fridays. All employees are expected to work in the office Monday through Thursday.

 

SALARY INFORMATION:

The annual salary range for this position is $120,000 to $140,000 $. New hires are typically brought in between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on experience, qualifications and internal equity.
