Job Description

**Overview** UMIAQ Design is seeking a Civil Engineer-in-Training to support a diverse portfolio of challenging infrastructure projects throughout rural and urban Alaska. With several recent large project awards and ongoing support contracts, the successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to a variety of projects, working both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams. Current and upcoming projects include urban site development, rural road design, utility system improvements, landfill development and closure, and unique, Alaska-specific, engineering challenges. This exciting career opportunity will address some of the most challenging Alaska and arctic infrastructure problems, making a positive measurable impact on communities throughout Alaska. **Responsibilities** Essential functions will include: + Work under the direction of a Professional Civil Engineer, with increasing responsibility based on performance and demonstrated capability. + Assist in the planning, design, and construction administration of civil engineering projects. + Conduct site visits and field investigations to support project planning and design. + Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies throughout project development. + Prepare design and construction documents across all project phases. + Support the bidding process, including development of bid documents and contractor coordination. + Provide construction administration services and assist with project closeout. + Direct and coordinate drafting and technical support staff. + Collaborate with internal team members and external consultants across multiple disciplines. **Qualifications** Minimum Qualifications: + Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. + Passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EIT). + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Knowledge of civil engineering design principles, preparation of design documents, and traditional construction methods. + Experience with AutoCAD drafting is preferred but not required. Physical and Mental Demands: + Travel to remote project locations using various modes of transportation. + Lift and carry up to 40 pounds. + Access and navigate unimproved terrain and active construction sites, often in varying weather conditions. + Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Working Conditions + May require travel to remote areas of Alaska throughout the year. + Work may be conducted in both indoor office settings and outdoor field environments, including active construction sites. \#LI-WW1 Applicants may be subject to a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening and/or random drug screen, and must follow UIC's Non-DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
